Let Go

To be healthy we need to not allow people who do so little for us occupy so much of our emotional and mental space. We cannot fly if we have relationship anchors holding us down. It is very easy to get stuck in wanting people to be the versions of them we think they can be, that they presented themselves to be, or who we think they should be or maybe who we even thought they were.

Challenging times are the great indicator of if someone is in your life because they truly love you or if they are in your life to get what they need from you. If someone leaves when a difficult challenge arises you can be clear they were in your life to get what they needed from you for themselves. We can get stuck emotionally and mentally in grieving over these people not understanding how they could have turned out like this when we thought so deeply they were genuine in the love and intentions towards us.

When this obsessing takes over emotionally and mentally is when we need to discipline and apply our self-loving skills to let go and persevere. Time brings the insight to see them clearly at which point you will be able to be grateful for the experience and lesson learned. You will see as you heal that the gaping hole they left in your life and heart will be filled to the brim with new people, experiences, loves and opportunities. If you stay stuck obsessing over the unfairness of these types of relationships you make no room for the new and you cannot fly. Let go, leap and spread your wings...you have higher places, people and opportunities waiting to fill you up.

Don't Force It

You can't force life. You are not in control. Trying to make something happen when it's not happening is a lesson in futility. Blaming yourself, wondering where you went wrong, blaming others, feeling like crap, feeling less-than because something didn't work as planned is taking on more responsibility than you have. Sometimes things happen. Sometimes things don't work out. Trying to force things to happen the way you want it to leads to a big, huge mess.

I know you want things to work out your way. I know you want to be in a relationship, or you want to succeed in that industry, or you want to get that job or make that friend, but sometimes the answer is no. You have zero control of the cause and effect of things outside of yourself. You only have control of you. The sooner you learn to let go and let life flow, the faster you'll be to your next good moment.

Realize when things are not going your way, sometimes that means that something better is out there for you. It doesn't mean that all is lost. Tune into the lesson in every situation. It is the lessons we learn when we stay open to life that take us higher and guide us to the next step.

Forcing things just screws your life up. When you stay longer than you're supposed to stay, when you mold yourself into something you're not, when you let go of your truth to fit into some scenario that's not your own, you become a fake person... just a flake of your true self.

When you try to get people to change, win people over, make the world realize that you're correct, try to get people to understand, get approval before you continue or do anything that involves manipulating and controlling how others think or feel about you or anything, you are forcing things that are not yours to force. You are weaving a web to trap yourself in. No need! Just release, let go, let things flow. Don't force. Trust that the God of your understanding is leading you to your Highest Good

Your Highest Good

What is best for you is not always the most comfortable. What is best for you, in fact, sometimes hurts. No matter what, it's important to realize that life is guiding you to your Highest Good. It is up to you to follow that guidance, though many times we fight it.

Defining your Highest Good is not easy, and it's a concept that unfolds as you embrace it. The key is to embrace it and learn to trust that life is on your side. God is on your side. Events ARE ON YOUR SIDE. Everything that happens in your life is FOR YOUR BENEFIT, believe it or not. We're dwelling in a giant classroom. This planet is a college of sorts where we are learning to be who we are. We are learning techniques that takes us somewhere--where? I'm not ready to talk about that one yet. For now, let's examine your Highest Good.

Growing up in a dysfunctional environment like I did, it is difficult to ascertain that life is working out for your highest good. It's easy to become a victim. It's easy to blame others and situations for your negative outlook. Who can blame you? If you've been hurt, it's natural to withdraw. When you've been conditioned to expect bad things to occur, you may not have that sense of trust that things will work out for your good. You will expect the worst.

It's healthy to believe that things will work out for your highest good. People who are blessed to grow up in a healthy home environment naturally believe in their highest good. They EXPECT to get their needs met. They EXPECT to experience life in good terms. They have no doubt that things will work out and this belief becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

We get what we expect.

Trusting in your Highest Good is an exercise in gratitude.

Your Highest Good is something you must learn to expect no matter how you were raised. It is in your power to rise above your original programming from your family origin. It's in your power to change your thoughts and your beliefs. You can start taking steps today to release yourself from a negative outlook and begin expecting life to turn out your way. It may take work and it may be challenging, but if you're dedicated, you can trust life to bring you more good than you've ever imagined.

What Happens When You Don't Trust Your Highest Good?

When you do not trust that things are working toward your highest good, it causes you to react to life with the expectation of failure. You see circumstances as strikes against you instead of opportunities for learning. You become ungrateful, instead of grateful for all things. You miss the lesson in the mistakes you make because you're too busy focusing on your dumb luck.

When you trust in your highest good, you can take the things that happen to you and turn them around for your benefit. If you experience a crappy relationship, you can use that experience as a lesson rather than a curse. You can swallow what happens to you as a step in the right direction--no matter what happens to you.

Trusting that you are being led to your highest good is liberating. It means that YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL. It means that YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY. It means that no matter what, you are heading in the right direction. Nothing can happen to you that you can't use for your journey; in fact, everything that happens to you is happening for a reason. You're either getting ahead, or you're learning for your next step.

There is a verse in the Bible that says, "All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purposes." Romans 8:28 This is a truth we can rely on. We can rely on God or our Higher Power to lead us and guide us to our Highest Good. Life is not against you. Life is for you. Things are not happening to you, no. You are WAY MORE IMPORTANT than that.

Knowing that life is for you, knowing that the universe is leading you to your Highest Good is liberating. It means you do not have to control. It means you do not have to manipulate or have an agenda. It means you don't need to sob or lose heart when someone walks out of your life. It means that good is right around the corner. You don't have to cling to today--you can let go and enjoy the ride. You can let go and look forward to tomorrow knowing that whatever happens--good or bad--will be in your best interest, and you can handle whatever comes your way.

You, my friend, are being divinely led whether you choose to realize it or not. You don't have to grab, cling, manipulate or control life. Everything outside of you is out of your control. All you and I must do is to TRUST LIFE to do what it needs to do to bring us where we're supposed to go. TRUST GOD to lead you and guide you and to take care of you--even if that means teaching you a lesson that hurts.
You are a valuable being--worth a lot. You are meant to be on this planet--you are not forgotten. You have a purpose on this earth, and that purpose will be worked out, if you relax and trust in your HIGHEST GOOD.

Self Judgment is the Root of Shame

Self Judgment is the root of shame. Shame can be good, but we overdose on it. Shame brings a horrible feeling with it out-of-the-blue. The sad part is, people live with that horrible feeling not realizing that it is in their power to stop damning themselves. Any bad feeling that is without cause can be eliminated completely from your life.

I would like to finish this article in depth, but not right now.

Emotions in Motion

Can you hold emotions in your physical body. My intuition says YES.

Emotional Breakthroughs
I think we hold emotions in our bodies. The feelings we repress, suppress and dissociate never actually go away. You can swallow your pain, anger, frustration, sadness, grief, but it will eventually show up in some other form... Right now my hip is really pissed. It's been a raging lunatic for years, especially when I try to use it for running or yoga. Does anyone know how to release feelings that are caught up in your os coxae? Maybe I'll try acupuncture.

Believe in Yourself

Believing in yourself taps into your potential and produces emotions which spur action which helps you achieve which helps you to believe in yourself even more and then it all starts again with a little more BELIEF which keeps getting stronger. You can do it! Take that first step...

If you can't believe all the way today, believe just a little, and then take action. The results will feed your belief.

Dr. Steven Brownlow Tweets

I love Dr. Steven Brownlow's tweets!

Loving engagement yields good results. Bad motives bring bad results.

Anxiety indicates that pressing emotions aren’t being processed adequately.

Change always involves loss, and loss always hurts.

It is error only, and not truth, that shrinks from inquiry. ~Thomas Paine

Growth comes from facing your anxieties.

You can’t think your way to enlightenment.

Small changes of routine can have large impacts on results.

People who can’t differentiate their emotions are more likely to sink into despair.

Life is difficult when you make it that way.

Organs have memories. A transplanted organ often brings its memories along.

People lie mainly to deceive themselves or to cover up different lies they’ve told others.

Nobody in love has good judgment; everybody wishes, and confuses fantasy and reality. ~Elvin Semrad

While one is consciously afraid of not being loved, the real, though usually unconscious fear is that of loving. ~Erich Fromm

When you consistently take whatever comes in stride, you’ve finally outgrown the emotional rollercoaster.

Nearly all of our mental activity occurs outside of our consciousness.

The main difference between poorly developed and optimally developed people is how they relate to their emotions.

Very little has to be done perfectly. Do well enough to get the job done and move on.

The height of narcissism is expecting others to drop their personal celebrations to track your latest catastrophe.

It’s hard to calm yourself when you’re terrified. Don’t get to that point.

When you’re scared, you focus on yourself instead of your mission.

All chronic emotional states lead to maladaptive behavior and relationships.

People don’t become resilient without facing tribulations.

Care is a state in which something does matter; it is the source of human tenderness. ~Rollo May

Make it easy for others to tell you the truth about themselves, your relationships, and you.

When people are having trouble breathing, it’s often because they are preventing themselves from crying.

The need for control signals anxiety about potential loss.

Desperation doesn’t often lead to getting what you really want.

The secret is to trust a lot of people a little bit, letting your trust and dependence grow as they grow into it.

If you depend on enough different people, then none can hurt you too much when they let you down.

A person’s irrational arguments indicate the contour of their defenses.

If your goal is to make someone else change into what you want, you’ll fail.

When people are motivated by fear in a society or organisation, it's really about compliance rather than genuine motivation.

Building something worthwhile takes effort. Tearing it apart is easy.

Calmness allows solutions to emerge.

Visualize this thing you want, see it, feel it, believe in it. Make your mental blueprint, and begin to build. ~Robert Collier

Love is possible only if two persons communicate with each other from the center of their existence. ~Erich Fromm

Your imagination can conjure up what you desire or what you fear. Use yours wisely.

Whatever you struggle with, someone else treats as a hobby.

Avoiding what you fear leads to poor decisions.

Tentative answers are adaptive. That's what science is. Thinking that you have the final answer--rigid fundamentalism--isn't.

The compulsive need for certainty destroys creativity.

The heart may overrule the mind, but the gut holds all the trump cards.

What you could potentially become most passionate about doing is what you’re now most afraid of doing.

Creative response occurs in the context of ambiguity.

Many problems intensify because people mistake certainty for security.

When it’s fully processed, grief is restorative.

You’re fully responsible for controlling yourself, and you can’t control anything else.

Changing is easiest when conscious desires and unconscious programming are aligned.

Motivation comes from emotion, as does attitude and belief. Heal old emotions and everything changes.

When your avoidance of bypassed emotions leads you to cut off relationships, you retraumatize yourself.

Claiming you don’t care is a form of denial.

The only way past emotional pain is pushing directly through it.

Past trauma truly can’t be erased. The question is whether it should play the starring role in your self-narrative.

You’ll become what you identify with as fearful.

Focusing on problems usually increases them.

Since you’ll arrange to get what you envision, take the time to imagine in great detail what you really want.

Calling yourself a “survivor” means you still feel victimized by life.

What are you afraid will happen if you declare what you want?

Everything you don’t focus on improving will fall apart, whether it’s your house, garden, health, or relationships.

It is the truth we ourselves speak rather than the treatment we receive that heals us. ~O. H. Mowrer

Only when a gut-level experience is fully accepted and accurately labeled in awareness can it be completed. ~Carl Rogers

Anxiety can be understood as an inability or unwillingness to admit hunger or desire. ~Mark Epstein

To grow up, you have to develop an ego. To mature, you have to develop past it.

People from dysfunctional backgrounds tend to discount their own feelings.

People from dysfunctional backgrounds tend to blame their partners for any problems in their relationship.

People from dysfunctional backgrounds tend to guess at what a strong relationship looks and feels like.

Chronically disturbed people fear the same things they desire.

Being dependent isn’t bad. Being dependent on the wrong people is.
